consultCan keratin extensions be reused? A guide to re-bonding

Quality keratin hair doesn't have to be thrown away at every maintenance. Here's how re-bonding works, what makes hair suitable — and what to expect.
Good extension hair is an investment. So it's natural to ask: when my bonds grow out, do I really need to buy a whole new set? Often, the answer is no. Quality keratin bond hair can be removed, re-bonded and reinstalled when it remains in suitable condition. Here's how it works.
What is re-bonding?
Re-bonding is the process of removing your original keratin tips and creating new bonds on the same hair. Each extension is individually prepared and re-tipped with fresh keratin before being reinstalled. You keep the hair you love — with fresh, secure tips and refreshed placement.
The re-bonding process, step by step
- Removal — your existing bonds are carefully removed and the hair is assessed.
- Assessment — the hair is checked for quality and condition.
- Preparation — each strand is cleaned, prepared and re-tipped with new keratin.
- Reinstallation — your hair is reinstalled, usually the next day or within a few days.
Because the hair needs time to be prepared and re-tipped, removal and reinstallation aren't done on the same day. Please book your removal first.
Can all keratin hair be reused?
Not always. Re-bonding depends on the quality and condition of the hair. Hair that is damaged, heavily shed or matted isn't suitable for reuse. That's why every set is assessed before it's re-tipped.
Extensions installed elsewhere can potentially be re-bonded too — they'll simply be assessed first.
Each extension is individually prepared and re-tipped with fresh keratin before being reinstalled.
The benefits of reusing your hair
- Reduces the cost of replacing hair every few months
- Extends the life of quality extension hair
- Creates fresh, secure tips
- Lets bond sizes be customised again for each area
- Reduces waste
- Refreshes placement and colour blending
Custom micro bonds — again
Re-bonding is also a chance to refine. The new keratin tips are handmade and can be created in different sizes to suit different areas of the scalp and your natural hair density — smaller at the hairline, larger where your hair can carry them.
How often should keratin bonds be maintained?
Maintenance timing varies depending on your natural hair growth, lifestyle and home care. Appointments are generally planned within an 8–12 week cycle.
Keeping your hair reusable
The better you care for your extensions, the more likely they can be reused. Brush gently from the ends up, avoid putting oils or conditioner on the bonds, dry your hair fully and sleep with it loosely braided. Brooke will walk you through aftercare at your appointment.

Micro keratin bonds vs tape extensions for fine hair
If your hair is fine or fragile, the method matters as much as the hair. Here's how micro bonds and tape compare — and why weight and density matching are everything.
